B&W 800 Series Diamond

01/06/10

Bowers & Wilkins has released the latest incarnation of their 800 Series Speaker; The 800 Series Diamond. The range incorporates a number of changes both sonically and aesthetically to advance the evolution of one of the finest loudspeakers in the world.

Every speaker in the range now benefits from a diamond tweeter offering the finest levels of clarity, detail and lack of distortion that is attributed to this ultimate tweeter material. The tweeter housings themselves have been upgraded with a new Quad Magnet Motor System and a new Tweeter Surround Material. The new magnet system increases the efficiency of the tweeter giving greater dynamic range with less compression and distortion, while the new surround material improves sound dispersion for an improved stereo image.

The bass driver units have also been improved with a new Duel Magnet Motor System that maintains a more linear movement structure and consequently less distortion. The dustcap assembly has been made smaller to raise the break-up frequency of the driver keeping it smoother to a higher frequency.

Improved crossovers have been added utilising Silver/Gold/Oil Mundorf capacitors, resulting in a cleaner signal and a cleaner sound. New oxygen free copper terminals improve the signal quality to the speaker.

The cabinet manufacturing is now completely in house at B&W's factory in Worthing. The matrix honeycomb structure has been adapted to improve cabinet rigidity reducing the level of cabinet coloration significantly.

Aesthetically, the speakers are now available in a new gloss piano black finish as well as Cherrywood & Rosenut. Magnetically attached grilles give a neater finish to the speakers when used without grilles, with non-metalic paint on the midrange heads for better integration with the new black finish. Aluminium decorative rings have been added around the tweeter and driver units to modernise the look and feel of the speaker.

The B&W Diamond Speaker range is a considerable move above and beyond the previous generation both sonically and aesthetically. All speakers in the range are now available for demonstration by appointment at the Robert Taussig showroom in Blandford Street.
