Classe CP-800

The much anticipated Classe CP-800 digital preamplifier has finally arrived with us in store. The mythical unit is indeed real, and it has been well worth the wait!
The Classe CP-800 combines a contemporary high-end analogue preamplifier with new technology, providing for existing componentry, while realising the benefits of modern computer based digital audio.
For the first time, a CD ripped onto a computer will now sound better than through a dedicated CD player. This is coupled with the convenience of accessing and controlling your entire music library through and ipod or ipad.
We currently have our CP-800 set up with an Apple Mac Mini computer. Connected by USB, our Mac Mini stores all our music in the uncompressed AIFF digital format in iTunes. We control our music using the Remote App on an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. We find the large iPad display to be the most convenient. With the Mac Mini, we can also access internet radio and any other iTunes libraries on our computer network.
The sound quality from our Mac Mini set up is at least equal to the top of the range Classe CDP-202 CD player. In fact it probably just has the sonic edge. The same can be said for plugging an iPod straight in, and even compressed mp3 digital files sound surprising excellent.
