As part of our News & Views section of the website we will be getting different members of staff to detail some of the music they have been recently listening to. Hopefully, you will discover a rich world of unknown musical pleasure...

Will O'Neale - Technical Illustrator / Web Curator / Sales:

Gruff Rhys - Hotel Shampoo

Gruff Rhys, lead singer of Welsh psychedelic pop band Super Furry Animals releases Hotel Shampoo, his third solo album, on 14th February 2011. The album itself will be launched in a hotel in Blackpool which he is taking over for the night. Limited ticket holders will be treated to a concert in the ballroom, a signed copy of the CD and of course, breakfast in the morning.
Unusual, Yes. Unusual for Gruff Rhys, certainly not. As for the album, it is sure to be a wonderful extension of the dreamlike melodic pop for that Gruff has become famous.

Girls - Broken Dreams Club EP

Following up from their debut Album, Girls return with the six track Broken Dreams Club EP.
Dubbed as a 'thank you' present for those who have supported them over the last year the EP sees a clear progression in song writing and production value. While the notoriously drug-addled debut Album ranged from mildly focused to plain delirious, Broken Dreams Club represents a polished continuation of the raw rock which originally gained them such critical acclaim.

Destroyer - Kaputt

Destroyer's ninth album Kaputt could easily be disregarded with its 80s influenced light synth-jazz backdrop, but it rewards the dedicated listener with a depth not heard on the wash of homage sound currently circulating. Stand out tracks include the slyly lyrical Blue Eyes and the ascending proggy Bay of Pigs. For those who enjoyed the minimal synth debut from The XX then Destroyer's Kaputt is well worth seeking out.
